Season Full Of Injury

by Calvin on Jul.26, 2009, under Football

Ya know sometimes you just don’t get any luck.  It sure seems that way with my current season of footbal (soccer to some of you).   Here are the injuries I have enjoyed so far:

  • Hamstring pull on right leg (May first game of the year)
  • Strained foot playing beach soccer in Cuba (first week of June)
  • Knee strain and some crazy over extension of my calf muscle (first week of July)
  • Hamstring pull on right leg (last week of July)

I guess its probably my own fault for not training properly before the season but for god’s sake its a co-ed rec league…it should not require that level of commitment.  This last one is a real fluke because I was trying to hit the ball off the line but when I landed I landed in a mud patch and my foot slipped out from underneath me and before I knew it I was doing the splits after hearing three distinct pops from the hamstring muscle in leg.  Just so you know, it hurts like hell and this is not fun.  Good thing we have a two week layoff because I will be damned if I dont get back in the game this  year.

Frustrating is all…

The Infamous Marco Materazzi

by Calvin on Jul.19, 2009, under Football, Funny

There is something about this football/soccer player that kinda makes me laugh.  Even though he is/was one hell of a dangerous player…to those on the opposite team.

Read about him here on wikipedia

Back to reality

by Calvin on Jul.19, 2009, under Travel

Whew…what a great vacation.  My last week was spent at Sol Rio de Luna y Mares and truth be told I was excited to go but wasn’t sure if I would have as good of a time as I did.  I mean traveling with two older brothers, they have a tendency to try and overshadow you with there parental nature.  Lucky for me those moments were few and far between, that I don’t really care anyways.  Besides we all managed to have a tremendous time with a lot of great people from all walks of life.  I met a whole slew of English people (most of whom I have now connected with on facebook) who were really fun and great sports about my “pretend” accent.

I was going to post up a picasa album of the trip but unfortunately one of my new friends (Jen…ahem)  dropped my camera (and subsequently broke it) and I haven’t made my way to the supermarket to drop the photos onto disc yet.  This will follow soon.

Boooooo’s:

Food – I can honestly say that I did not enjoy the food this time either as it made me ill for a few days and I could not eat.  The only thing I could stomach for 3 days were hot dogs, which is gross enough!  So I have been to both sides of the island and this seems to be a common problem….beware travelers!!

Shopping – my brothers insisted on going shopping in Holguin and while I am ok with bombing around a city on scooters I did not enjoy walking into the equivilent of the Cuban Sears on each and every block.  Funny thing was they were adamant about shopping and didn’t even buy anything that day….except 30 beers to bring back to the resort (which was all inclusive I might add)

Hooray’s:

People – absolutely great lot of people at the resort (Sol Rio de Luna y Mares…free plug).

Service – the people working there were amazing as well.  Seemed much nicer than the first time I was there and they were a great lot as well.  The people working in the lobby bar and the pool bar of the Mares side were especially great…I rarely waited for a drink even when the bar was full.

Scooters – great fun ’nuff said.

Beach – crystal clear water and no shark sightings :)

Leaving for vacation…see you soon

by Calvin on Jul.08, 2009, under Funny

Ok so I am heading out for a week of sun and fun in Holguin Cuba with my brothers.  they are party animals, ok ok I like ot have fun too and I have never actually gone on a vacation with my brothers so this should be good.  The only one missing is my oldest bro, but I am hoping that next year he talks his wife into letting him come along for the fun…that is if we survive this trip and we can do this sort of thing again. :)   Who am I kidding I love going places and pretty much never refuse a good trip.

I definitely plan on getting this site revamped when I get back and that includes moving posts from my blogspot site (http://xcalvinx.blogspot.com) to this one.  There is some pretty great fino there…mostly SharePoint centric but I still need to remember that stuff so I will move it soon.

Here’s a pic from the last time I was in Cuba…four weeks ago :) (I love last minute deals what can I say)

Gears Of War 2 update

by Calvin on Jul.06, 2009, under Video Games

Normally I don’t care about this sort of thing but it turns out they are getting rid of the ANNOYING concussion smoke grenades that forced me to stop playing the game online.  Now that I have been working through the single player in co-op I might dust off my multi player skills and give it a whirl.

Ah the joys of firing guns at virtual people and screaming at my TV…good times :)

New Blog

by Calvin on Jul.03, 2009, under Funny

So I finally got my new blog site up..I was originally planning on developing my own in PHP and got about half way through when a friend of mine pchan told me about the wordpress application so after seeing his I decided to go that route.  Hey what can I say…it doesn’t make sense to recreate the wheel.

So over the next little while I am going to be fiddling with this site.
